Looking back, in the coming year, artificial intelligence has become an unavoidable topic in Hangzhou’s economic and social development. With the opening of the AI town, Zhijiang Laboratories and other key institutions have established themselves here, along with Baidu (Hangzhou) Innovation Center, Beihang VR/AR Innovation Research Institute, and the China-Ukrainian Artificial Intelligence Industry Center. Alibaba's "Dharma House" is also located here, marking the beginning of a tech-driven ecosystem where innovation, talent, and capital converge. This transformation has given rise to numerous groundbreaking results, fueling the growth of Hangzhou's information economy.
The synergy between artificial intelligence, big data, and cloud computing has driven significant progress in the city's information economy. For the past 11 consecutive quarters, the sector has maintained double-digit growth. In the first three quarters of this year alone, the city's information economy reached 2.276 trillion yuan, growing by 22.3% year-on-year, accounting for 25.2% of the regional GDP.
In December 2017, the RestHour AI Hotel, focusing on intelligent technologies, officially opened its doors. The hotel features a smart speaker that controls all room equipment. From smart restaurants to AI-controlled racing cars, immersive VR glasses, and AI-powered hotels, many futuristic concepts have now become real. These smart applications are driving economic growth and bringing new energy to Hangzhou.
Wang Qi, founder of Rui Wang Technology, shared his experience during an interview. “Our newly opened hotel is the first real smart hotel, and many friends want to come and experience it, but more importantly, they’re looking for collaboration.†He expressed gratitude for the support from the AI industry ecosystem in Hangzhou and the local AI town.
The integration of AI with the real economy has accelerated, especially in the information sector. Under the leadership of companies like Alibaba and Hikvision, the information economy has become a key driver of Hangzhou’s growth, enhancing the city's overall competitiveness.
In Xiaoshan, the AI development is also gaining momentum, with the vision of creating the "China AI Valley." Projects such as HKUST, Shangtang Science and Technology, and Zhejiang University's Informatics AI Research Center have taken root. AI seeds are being planted, waiting for the time to bloom into tangible results.
Xu Jiajia, General Manager of Zhejiang University of Science and Technology, noted that Hangzhou's government service and the deep integration of AI with urban and manufacturing development align with their strategic goals.
With the release of the "Next Generation Artificial Intelligence Development Plan of Zhejiang Province," Hangzhou is set to further expand its AI industry. Over the next five years, the city will focus on building multiple industrial platforms, promoting smart applications, and striving to establish a national-leading AI cluster.
In the realm of smart healthcare, the "smart house" in Shuichengqiao community has become a hub for residents. The most popular device is the multifunctional self-service medical machine, which allows users to check vital signs quickly and easily. It automatically tracks health data and alerts clinics if any abnormalities are detected, enabling early intervention.
Big data is transforming daily life, making everything smarter, faster, and more convenient. As the Internet Capital of China, Hangzhou is leading the way in developing smart applications. The "City Data Brain" project, launched in Xiaoshan District, has already shown promising results by optimizing traffic flow and improving vehicle speeds.
The Hangzhou Municipal Bureau of Data Resources has been established to promote the application of data in governance and public services. A new initiative called the "Citizen's Window" aims to provide 24/7 self-service solutions, reducing bureaucratic hurdles and enhancing citizen satisfaction.
As AI and big data continue to evolve, Hangzhou is positioning itself as a global leader in smart city development, offering innovative solutions that improve quality of life and drive economic growth.
