Laser lighting laboratory settled in Shenzhen

National "Thousand Talents Program" expert, Shenzhen Zhongguang Industrial Technology Research Institute Dr. Li Wei, through the matchmaking, introduced the Nakamura Shuji Laser Lighting Laboratory into Shenzhen, which means that Shenzhen has taken a substantial step in the world of laser lighting. In the future, this lab, led by the Nobel Prize winner, will play the role of “brain” and “think tank” in the process of laser lighting industrialization, becoming a “treasure house” for technology and talent.

    Will laser lighting replace LEDs?

    December 13, 2016, Shenzhen City Light Industrial Technology Research Institute cum Shuji Nakamura, laser lighting laboratory officially inaugurated in Nanshan District of Shenzhen. This is a private non-enterprise unit engaged in industrial technology research such as laser lighting and industrialization. Nobel Prize winner in physics, blue LED and blue laser inventor Professor Nakamura Shuji is the director of the laboratory, responsible for the lead formation and follow-up of the laboratory.

    In the eyes of many experts, laser lighting will be the next vent of the lighting industry. "Father of Blu-ray" Nakamura Shuji has publicly stated that laser lighting will replace LED lighting in the next 10 years .

    The efficiency of laser illumination is thousands of times higher than that of LED , which not only increases the projection distance, but also improves safety, while its volume is smaller and the structure is more compact. In addition to lighting, laser display will be widely used in projectors, digital cinema, television, stage lights, large screen splicing, automotive and other fields.

    The industrialization of scientific research results and its economic and social value is one of the original intentions of the laboratory. The decision to introduce Professor Nakamura and his team is not only about its top-notch research capabilities, but also its outstanding ability to transform technology.

He has a personal experience in technology application and industrialization. This kind of research and business background is appreciated by the city government and partners. "Li Yi said that despite laser lighting technology is still in its infancy, the industry chain is not mature, technically still faces many problems. However, the cutting-edge scientific and technological achievements produced in the Nakamura laboratory are applied to the important semiconductor industry gathering place in Shenzhen, “it will have a huge industrial effect”.

    The entrance to the laser lighting industrialization will be locked in the car lighting headlights. “Halogen lamps are very energy-intensive, LED lamps are not ideally bright, and lasers with both energy saving and brightness will be the best choice.” Li Wei said that once the laser production cost is reduced, the laser headlights will quickly dominate the automotive lighting market. .

    The establishment of Nakamura Laboratory will accelerate the incubation of a new generation of lighting technology industry represented by laser lighting in Shenzhen. Shenzhen is expected to become the vanguard of the international laser lighting industry.

    The core team of Nakamura Shuji Laser Lighting Laboratory was personally led by Professor Nakamura. It is equipped with many scientific research backbones from the Silicon Valley of the United States, including the National Academy of Engineering ( NAE ) academician Steven Denbas, and attracts a large number of local high-end R&D. People join to form a strong international R & D team. The laboratory has established extensive cooperative relations with universities and research institutions in the United States, Britain, Russia, Japan and other countries and regions.

    Li Wei revealed that in the next three to five years, the institute (laboratory) plans to introduce 50 to 100 professionals and supporting personnel in the fields of optics, electronics, materials, physics, mechanical design, precision manufacturing, etc. Supply of resources, and at the same time do a good job in the reserve and training of industrialized talents.
