ON Semiconductor has introduced a new family of ThermalTrak(tm) output transistors with unique features for internal bias control. ThermalTrak(tm) devices are designed for high-end and cost-effective consumer electronic audio applications and high-power professional sound systems to improve overall sound quality and simplify design.

ON Semiconductor's audio output transistors use the patented ThermalTrak(tm) technology to eliminate cumulative warm-up time and quickly and accurately adjust the bias. Real-time temperature sensing allows designers to more accurately monitor operating temperatures and improve sound quality and bias stability. This device family simplifies amplifier design by eliminating the need for output drive compensation circuitry and costly manual offset adjustment.

"The ThermalTrak(tm) has changed the way designers implement power audio amplification," said Mike Paquette, director of discrete products at ON Semiconductor. "A typical biasing scheme typically requires the designer to operate the amplifier output device under a slightly under-biased state. Prevent heat loss; but such amplifiers can't achieve true high-fax performance. In short, ON Semiconductor's ThermalTrak(tm) output transistors are a truly high-fidelity single-device solution."

The IF NJL21193DG (PNP) and NJL21194DG (NPN) are 250 V devices that provide 200 watts (W) of power and 4 MHz bandwidth. With high power ratings and excellent Safe Operating Area (SOA), these devices are ideal for high-power professional audio applications that require high reliability, including professional sound reinforcement and sound reinforcement equipment systems for large-scale applications.

The high frequency (30 MHz) series devices include 180 W NJL0302DG (PNP) and NJL0281DG (NPN), 200 W NJL1302DG (PNP) and NJL3281DG (NPN), and 250 W NJL4302DG (PNP) and NJL4281DG (NPN). With high power and excellent gain matching, these devices are ideal for consumer audio amplifiers and professional audio applications using single or multiple parallel output devices. These applications include car stereos, home stereos and home theater systems.

ThermalTrak(tm) devices are available in a standard 5-pin TO-264 package.

The IF NJL21193DG and NJL21194DG devices are priced at $1.60 per unit in 10,000 unit quantities. The NJL0302DG and NJL0281DG (30 MHz, 180 W devices) are priced at $1.30 per unit in 10,000 unit quantities. The NJL4302DG and NJL4281DG (30 MHz, 250 W devices) and NJL1302DG and NJL3281DG (30 W, 200 W devices) are priced at $1.75 per unit in 10,000-unit quantities.
