The wireless body LAN standard "BAN (IEEE 802.15.6)" is officially approved

    The IEEE 802.15 working group that promotes the standardization of short-range wireless communication officially approved the standard "IEEE 802.15.6" for a short-range wireless network constructed by various sensors and devices arranged around the human body. This is a communication method called "BAN (Body Area Network)". BAN's standardization discussion started in 2007, and after about five years, the standard setting work was finally completed.

    As a short-range wireless communication, although the concept of "PAN (Personal Area Network)" has existed before, BAN aims at a shorter transmission distance and only around the human body. In addition to medical and health care applications, the envisaged main uses include content exchange between portable players and wireless headsets and other portable devices around them.

    The physical layer of IEEE802.15.6 is composed of multiple wireless methods. Specifically, narrow bandwidth communication using a frequency of 400 MHz to 2.4 GHz, ultra-wideband communication using pulsed UWB, and human body communication using a human body as a signal transmission medium.
