1. Necessary conditions for diagnosis
In order to monitor and troubleshoot the control system with STEP 7, the project file downloaded to the CPU must be exactly the same as the project file in the computer. If the downloaded project is not encrypted, you can use STEP 7 to upload the user program and configuration information in the CPU.
2. Use quick view to diagnose faults
Select the PLC station to be checked in the SIMATIC Manager, execute the menu command "PLC" --> "Diagnosis/Settings" --> "Hardware Diagnosis", open the quick view, and you will see the station's CPU, faulty modules and DP slave. Select a DP slave station and click the "Module Information" button to view its fault information.
3. Use the diagnostic buffer of the CPU to diagnose the fault
Select the CPU in the quick view and click the "module information" button to open the CPU module information dialog box. You can see various diagnostic events in the "Diagnostic Buffer" tab of the module information dialog box. Select an event, and the "Detailed Information about the Event" window under the diagnostic buffer will display the detailed information of the event. Click the "Event Help" button to get help information.
Detailed and accurate information related to the fault can be obtained from the diagnostic buffer. Including the number of the network where the faulty DP slave is located and the number of the DP slave, the number of the OB that needs to be called to handle the fault, the reason for the CPU shutdown, the starting address of the faulty module, and what kind of fault it is. It is an incoming event (fault appears) or an outgoing event (fault disappears).

Execute the menu command "PLC" --> "Diagnostics/Settings" --> "Module Information" in the SIMATIC Manager, and you can also open the module information dialog box of the CPU.
4. Diagnose with the diagnostic view
The diagnostic view is actually the online hardware configuration view. Click the "Open Online Station" button in the quick view to open the diagnostic view, you can see the faulty DP slave station and the faulty module in the slave station. Double-click the faulty module to open its "module information" dialog box, you can see the specific and accurate fault information of the module.
