Blu-ray Discs Going to the Niche Market in China

In China, DVD players have played the role of household necessities, but at the moment, Blu-ray players called next-generation DVDs are returning to niche markets.

At the press conference organized by the Blu-ray Disc Association on the 13th, the reporter learned that Blu-ray users have also been growing steadily each year in China, but the overall scale is still relatively small. The Blu-ray audience is mainly responsible for higher audiovisual requirements and awareness of intellectual property protection. crowd.

The Chinese DVD industry used to be a big industry. Once there were thousands of DVD player makers, DVD players were sold around the world in addition to domestic sales. Entering the next generation of DVD era, multinational corporations headed by Sony and Panasonic unified the rivers and lakes and adopted “Blu-ray” as the next-generation DVD standard. Although China also introduced its own Blu-ray standard, it was eliminated by the market.

"China's piracy is more serious, but Blu-ray genuine promotion is not as bad as it was imagined." Zhao Guizhi, chairman of the Blu-ray Disc Association China Promotion Group, introduced yesterday that some color TV companies have bundled Blu-ray DVD players to sell TVs, which has also been driven to some extent. The sales of disc players, and the continuous introduction of Blu-ray disc content will also attract Chinese users to purchase Blu-ray players.

Yesterday's Sony, Disney, Hualu and other content providers said that they will introduce dozens of high-definition Blu-ray movies in the next 12 months. The practical dilemma introduced is that since the introduction of cultural products requires a corresponding procedure, the content introduced often has a relatively long time gap with overseas releases. Many Chinese viewers have already watched the videos from other channels, which is less attractive to users.

In addition, for users, a Blu-ray DVD player is worth a thousand dollars, and the price is expensive. A Blu-ray disc costs tens to a few yuan, while an expensive one costs more than 100 yuan. For enterprises, if the market demand is limited, they will not drastically reduce prices. This is a contradiction.

Blu-ray Blu-ray Network is a platform that aggregates Blu-Ray fans in China and currently has 50,000 members. Yang Bing, the founder of Blu-ray Network, said yesterday that “Chinese users hope that Blu-ray prices can be reduced further, and that the source of movies can be more abundant. We roughly estimate that the total amount of Blu-ray products purchased by our members is about 20 million yuan. Blu-ray The spending power of fans is still very strong."
