Intel has independently developed a mobile phone or delivered ZTE production

According to foreign media reports, according to two people familiar with the matter, Intel has designed a mobile phone to gain a foothold in the mobile phone chip market. This phone may be produced by ZTE.

A person familiar with the matter said that Intel has provided a design for a mobile phone based on the Atom processor. This kind of mobile phone may be sold in China. Since this plan has not yet been made public, the person concerned does not want to reveal his identity.

Intel is seeking partners to help it into the smartphone industry. This is part of Intel’s plan to reduce its dependence on PCs. Intel's challenge is to compete with processors currently using ARM technology that dominate the mobile phone business. The deal with ZTE will allow Intel to reach the eighth-largest handset maker.

There are currently no phones that sell Intel processors. Intel’s efforts to enter the smart phone market were hit in February of this year. Nokia contracted a development project at that time, which was to develop and configure the operating system that it jointly developed with Intel. Instead, Nokia plans to focus on smart phones that use Microsoft software.

Intel spokesman Claudine Mangano declined to comment on whether Intel is working with ZTE. He said that from the perspective of the entire market, we admit that we still have much to do. However, we have patience. We are committed to the development of this business. We have the right ingredients for success. We are working with many companies. However, it is not time to announce these partners.

ZTE spokesperson MargreteMa said ZTE’s mobile phone division has already negotiated with Intel. However, she did not provide further information. In an interview on April 11, she said that at the moment this is only a technical discussion and cooperation.
