Molex's new Micro-SIM card socket

    Molex , the world's leading provider of complete interconnect products, expands its line of micro-SIM card sockets for mobile device manufacturers with push- pull micro-SIM card sockets designed for smartphones, tablets, GPS watches and other spaces Limited application with high contact force and advanced card retention features to prevent accidental ejection. The push-pull socket type features short-circuit proof and card-position polarity, and the new card-tray model provides retention and simplifies the user's ability to insert and extract cards.

    Doug Jones, product manager at Molex Group, said: "Mobile devices are getting smaller and smaller, and are turning to 3G and 4G/LTE networks, which require smaller connectors and better connector designs. These latest compact micros -SIM connectors provide excellent electrical contact performance and other important advantages for mobile device manufacturers."

    Molex 's micro-SIM push-pull card socket measures 12 mm x 15 mm, which is 52% smaller than the previous generation Mini-SIM card socket (15 mm x 25 mm). Push-pull micro-SIM card sockets are available in 1.35, 1.40 and 1.45 mm heights, providing the same space savings and higher contact forces. The housing has a wide finger area for easy insertion and removal of micro-SIM cards. The card drawer socket is the only product of the same type on the market, and the card can be removed without tools. The easy-to-use micro-SIM card drawer has a smooth pull-out feature and provides a secure lock to prevent accidental ejection.

    Molex's new micro-SIM socket features a smaller footprint, lower side height, high contact orthogonal force (0.30 N) and high reliability, and advanced card polarity design helps prevent incorrect card insert.

    Jones added: "Our new push-pull, push-pull and card drawer micro-SIM card sockets are designed to accommodate portable devices that are too small for mini-SIM cards, providing manufacturers with ultimate design flexibility and Excellent product performance."

    The micro-SIM card socket is available in standard 6-way and optional 8-way models. All models are halogen and lead free and comply with ELV and RoHS standards.
