ROHM develops the smallest and thinnest LED at 1mA low current

    Introduction: ROHM Corporation has recently developed one of the world's smallest and thinnest LEDs - "PicoLED╁co" "." This LED is an extension of the "PicoLED" (1.0 x 0.6 x 0.2mm) series, which emits about twice as much light at a low current of 1 mA. (If the brightness is equal, the power consumption is reduced by about 50%, which is conducive to energy saving.) "PicoLED╁co" is expected to be produced from May 2007 (sample price: about RMB 6.5 / support) In June, mass production began on a scale of 10 million units per month. The specific manufacturing process is scheduled to be carried out at ROHM WAKO CO., LTD. (Okayama Prefecture), ROHM SEMICONDUCTOR (CHINA) CO., LTD. and ROHM-WAKO ELECTRONICS (MALAYSIA) SDN.BHD.

    In recent years, the development of electronic devices has become smaller and more multifunctional. On the one hand, the power consumption of each machine has increased, and on the other hand, the requirements for energy conservation from the perspective of protecting the environment have been stronger than before. For example, LEDs used in components such as keyboards of mobile phones require LEDs with low current consumption and high brightness, and small size, under the condition of actually using 1 mA current.
    There are more and more cases where the LED level of 20 mA can be reached.

    Therefore, ROHM conducted research on the "patent for energy-saving chips and chip LEDs" obtained in 2002, and developed ROHM's original component structure to make low-current high-brightness LEDs. When the current is 1 mA, the brightness is about the same. 2 times the component (see reference data).
    This new product is conducive to energy saving of small portable devices and battery drivers based on mobile phones, and to extend battery life. Further, as a further promotion, it is possible to apply to a small-sized thin-type + energy-saving device such as a 0.2-inch 7-segment light source with a character height and a high-density dot matrix of 1.5 mm pitch which is almost impossible to realize in the past.

    The color of this product is available in red, orange, yellow and green. The component uses a 4-element (AlGalnP) component with a low degree of brightness reduction, which can meet the needs of various fields after a long time.

    ROHM is working hard to produce more varieties of LED products using its proprietary devices, packages and ultra-fine processing technologies.
