(NYSE: VSH) announced that it has upgraded the performance of the TSOP36... series of small surface mount infrared receivers for mid-infrared remote control applications in consumer products. The TSOP36... series has a minimum luminous intensity of 0.12 mW/m2 and is 20% more sensitive than previous generation devices. It can be used with infrared 3D TV signals and other noise, and improves the filtering of these signals and noise.

These devices, released today, use a new generation of integrated circuits to provide five automatic gain control (AGC) versions for short and long burst encoding. TSOP361.. and TSOP362.. are compatible with all common infrared remote control data formats. TSOP363.. and TSOP364.. can be used in a variety of remote control applications to suppress spurious pulses from energy-saving lamps and dimming LCD backlights, while TSOP365.. can even suppress extremely high optical noise.
The TSOP36... infrared receiver improves resistance to ESD and uses metal shielding to withstand EMI, making it suitable for consumer products such as set-top boxes, televisions, stereos and digital cameras. To simplify the design, these devices house photodetectors and preamplifier circuits in a 4-pin epoxy package. The device is packaged in tape and reel for top or side view and is insensitive to supply voltage and ripple noise.
The infrared receiver has an operating voltage of 2.5V to 5.5V, a transmission distance of up to 45 meters, a carrier frequency of 30kHz to 56kHz, and a supply current as low as 0.35mA at 3.3V. The device is RoHS compliant and Vishay "green".
Samples are available for the new infrared receivers and are in volume production with a three-week lead time.
