AdaptivEnergy and GainSpan team up with WiFi nodes

    AdapTIvEnergy and GainSpan team up with WiFi node energy harvesting technology

    AdapTIvEnergy, which is engaged in energy harvesting, and GainSpan, which develops WiFi sensor network technology, are launching a technical cooperation. Both companies received capital injections and reached a strategic technology development agreement with CIA's independent strategic investment company In-Q-Tel.

    The two companies plan to demonstrate WiFi sensors driven by energy harvesting technology. One of the demonstrations will use AdapTIvEnergy's Joule-Thief module to drive GainSpan's temperature and light sensor nodes. The sensor node transmits the collected data to the network program through a standard WiFi access point. The only source of power is vibration less than 0.040G.

    AdapTIvEnergy integrates Micropelt GmbH's thermo-generator technology to drive GainSpan's WiFi sensor node.

    AdaptivEnergy's Joule-Thief technology can obtain and store electrical energy from any movement-human walking, wind and water, and even door opening and closing. GainSpan's GS1010 system-on-chip packages 802.11 wireless, media access control, baseband processor, on-chip flash memory, SRAM, and program processor.

    AdaptivEnergy CEO Jim Vogeley said: "The ultra-low energy consumption of GainSpan products provides significant new opportunities for battery-free autonomous smart sensor networks, and also significantly enhances the flexibility and functionality of our company's energy harvesting solutions."

    Bernard Aboussouan, vice president of marketing at GainSpan, pointed out: "This demonstration marks another step closer to the realization of battery-free WiFi sensor devices. Advances in the field of energy harvesting and low-power WiFi include various location tracking, human health, and property monitoring devices Paved the way. "
