According to foreign media reports, authoritative research firm Gartner expects that global semiconductor revenue in 2009 will reach 19,980,000,000 US dollars, down 22.4% year-on-year.
In contrast, global semiconductor revenue in 2008 was $255 billion. Affected by the economic downturn, the business of semiconductor companies such as Intel, AMD and Samsung have all been affected and it is not expected to rebound until the second quarter of next year.
Gartner research vice president, Bryan Lewis, said: "The PC shipments in the first quarter were better than expected, leading us to believe that the demand for the processor market has increased, but in fact it is due to inventory clearance rather than real demand."
Lewis said that the global semiconductor market has not yet bottomed out. At present, only the Chinese market has shown signs of a rebound.
