Chinese regulators require Apple to strengthen its live application review process

【Global Science and Technology Report】 According to the South China Morning Post reported on April 20th, Chinese regulators will require Apple to strengthen the review process for live applications on the App Store. In recent years, China has conducted a series of regulatory actions against Apple Inc. This is the latest one.

On Tuesday, Beijing Welfare Office WeChat Public (Netnews Beijing) issued a statement saying that Apple will be interviewed in recent days and Apple will be required to strengthen the application review process for news and live broadcasts in China to ensure compliance with relevant regulations. The Beijing Internet Information Office stated that today’s headlines, live volcanoes, and live peppercorns have failed to comply with relevant legal requirements, but these applications can be downloaded from the Apple App Store.

“The headlines, live volcanoes, and live peppercorns have systems that are lacking in information verification, emergency response, and technical support. There are major management loopholes in live content, user classification management, authentic identity information authentication, and handling public reports.” Beijing's public tweet said in the article.

However, Apple spokesman Josh Rosenstock has not yet responded.

Unlike the banned Google Play Store, the Apple App Store is also open to Chinese consumers and has important markets in China. However, in recent years, Chinese regulators have exerted increasing pressure on Apple. Last year, Apple was forced to shut down iTunes Movies and iBooks services in China, resulting in defeats in patent and trademark disputes with some of China's unknown opponents.

In order to enhance Apple's position in China, CEO Tim Cook has carried out a series of investment activities and bought Djichui's $1 billion (about 6.868 billion yuan) stake. In addition, he also plans to build some R&D institutions in China.

In fact, last year, China’s relevant agencies had already made new regulations for mobile developers, requiring them to review user’s identity information, including mobile phone numbers, and also required them to monitor and report information that contained prohibited content. The regulations also state that application developers must keep users logging for 60 days. When a developer submits an app to the App Store, he or she should accept the appropriate review process.
