On January 3, 2005, LSI Logic announced the launch of DiMeNsion-3, the third-generation DVD recorder solution. The DiMeNsion-3 solution includes LSI Logic's third-generation DVD recorder system processor, an optical servo/DSP embedded in the AFE, and a new line of NTSC/PAL video decoders. With a unified standard memory architecture (UMA), the DiMeNsion-3 solution removes and integrates a significant number of components, and the entire system requires only a single DRAM and FLASH, which will allow OEMs to achieve a BOM cost reduction of up to $20. . The DiMeNsion-3 DVD recorder solution includes the industry's first optical read/write servo/DSP with embedded AFE (L3200). The L3200 with embedded ZSP® DSP core is optimized for the consumer DVD recorder market and works seamlessly with the new full-featured DVD recorder system processor (DoMiNo 8603 or DMN-8603). The L3200 offers extensive media support including DVD+RW/-RW, +R/-R, CD-RW/-R and double-sided read/write. At the same time, the DiMeNsion-3 solution includes a range of analog video decoders to meet different price requirements. The L2150 is designed for entry-level products worldwide; the L2146 is optimized for high-quality video recording from RGB terminals, such as SCART in Europe. The complete DiMeNsion-3 solution provides manufacturers with a "one-stop shop" that includes the necessary wafers, system software, and technical support for a full line of recorder products.
Representing the breakthrough of DVD recorder functions, DMN-8603 integrates the following technologies and features:
