New 3D printed bone implants come closer to natural bones

    Damiano Pasini, a professor of mechanical engineering at McGill University in Canada, and his team recently developed a new type of 3D printed bone (thigh bone) implant that claims to be "not comfortable enough" for existing implants of the same type. And the problem of "will gradually get corrupted."

    It is understood that this implant is so magical mainly because its structure is loose and porous, closer to the natural bones, can effectively fool the remaining bone around the implant site and let them continue to work normally. The resulting benefit is that the implant is better integrated into the body, so it will take longer to survive and may cause fewer follow-up problems.

    It is worth mentioning that the porous structure of this implant is composed of extremely small hollow tetrahedrons. Although the inside of the tetrahedron is hollow, they are not fragile when connected, but they are very strong, just like the Eiffel Tower, they can play a good role.

    In fact, Professor Pasini's research has been around since 6 years ago, but it is finally achieved with 3D printing technology.

    At present, this implant has successfully passed many tests, and Professor Pasini and his team have already applied for a patent. In addition, because it is fully compatible with existing surgical techniques, it is expected to be easily approved by the FDA and will be available for clinical use within 3-5 years.
