Nordic Launches nRF51 IoT Software Development Kit (SDK)

Oslo, Norway – December 22, 2014 – Nordic Semiconductor ASA (OSE: NOD) , an ultra low power (ULP) RF specialist, announced the launch of the nRF51 Internet of Thing (IoT) Software Development Kit (SDK). This is the complete IPv6-ready Internet Protocol suite for the market-leading Nordic nRF51 family of system-on-chip (SoC), leveraging the Bluetooth SIG's newly adopted Internet Protocol Support Profile (IPSP). And 6LoWPAN technology of the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). The SDK enables IP-based end-to-end communication to take Nordic's nRF51 series and IoT's Bluetooth Smart® capabilities to the next level.

This includes large distributed cloud-connected heterogeneous network deployments related to smart home, industrial and enterprise automation applications, as well as logistics, access control and cloud services, which can be implemented with Bluetooth Smart Wireless technology with "last mile" technology. The practice is completely unrelated, and direct communication between the service and the “item” is achieved.

Native IP means that Bluetooth smart “items” can communicate with each other via “headless” routers and the Internet. It also means that Bluetooth smart “items” can be IPv6 with Wi-Fi, Ethernet, ZigBee IP and Thread. Functional other wired or wireless technology items communicate to form a heterogeneous network.

    Nordic

Unlike other IoT solutions based on proxy or proprietary Internet gateway bridges, the nRF51 IoT SDK is based entirely on open standards and extends IP addressing up to "items" to enable "headless routers". The protocol stack first introduced includes: Internet Protocol Support Profile (IPSP), 6LoWPAN Adaptation Layer, IPv6 Internet Routing Layer, User Datagram Protocol (UDP), and Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) transport layer. Constrained ApplicaTI (CoAP) and Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MTT) application layers, as well as a series of application examples. The compact memory footprint also means that the complete protocol stack can be run on the nRF51 Series SoCs in a single chip configuration, allowing developers to minimize the power, size and cost of the final product. Close the network routing layer, users, thus achieving "no-expense router: communication with the Internet, it

To complement this development tool suite, Nordic also offers software settings for emulating "headless" routers and supporting IPv6 Bluetooth intelligence, including Raspberry Pi (model B), Bluetooth Smart Ready USB accessory, Raspbian GNU/Linux Kernel 3.17.4 And radvd deamon. These "headless" router settings, the new nRF51-DK and nRF51 IoT SDKs, provide developers with a powerful and complete platform for developing IoT applications based on the Nordic nRF51 Series SoC and Bluetooth Smart.

According to Thomas Embla Bonnerud, Director of Product Management at Nordic Semiconductor, "With the rise and large-scale growth of wearable products, Bluetooth Smart is already a mature technology for connecting "My Items" to the Internet. The nRF51 IoT SDK is released for Bluetooth Smart Technology. The potential to connect “goods around you.” This SDK solution allows developers to take full advantage of Bluetooth smart technology in a range of new IoT market segments and applications. We believe Bluetooth Smart IPv6 is power, size and cost limited The main enabling technology for IoT applications, and we are proud and happy to be the first to introduce a fully integrated solution."

Errett Kroeter, senior director of marketing for the Bluetooth Technology Alliance, said: "Bluetooth continues to offer new wireless connectivity possibilities for OEMs, developers and consumers. Now, with the new IPSP profile of the Bluetooth 4.2 standard, sensors can be directly passed through IPv6 and 6LoWPAN. Access to the Internet. Bluetooth Smart is the only wireless technology that offers innovation flexibility, market expansion capabilities, and globally recognized standards of trust, all of which are essential to achieving IoT commitments. We are happy to see companies moving so quickly Bluetooth wireless technology provides IP wireless connectivity."

    About Nordic Semiconductor ASA

Nordic Semiconductor ('Nordic') is a fabless semiconductor company specializing in ultra-low power (ULP) shortcomings in the industrial, scientific and medical (ISM) bands at 2.4 GHz and below 1 GHz without authorization. Distance wireless communication technology. Nordic is publicly traded on the Oslo Stock Exchange (transaction code: NOD) in Norway.

Nordic's ultra-low-power wireless solutions enable customers to integrate wireless connectivity into a wide range of products, from mainstream consumer products such as RF remote controls to the most advanced and innovative wireless devices, while at the same time functioning and performance. And the price has reached or exceeded the expectations of the end users. Nordic designs and manufactures four product families, including a universal silicon architecture nRF51 series 2.4GHz ultra-low-power RF system single-chip (SoC) supporting 2.4GHz proprietary, ANT or Bluetooth® (Bluetooth) low-power RF software protocol; nRF24L Series 2.4GHz RF system single-chip (SoC); nRF24AP2 series ANT connectivity chip; and μBlueTM series Bluetooth low-power IC. In addition, Nordic offers the nRF2460 audio streaming IC and a family of frequencies below 1 GHz, making it ideal for industrial, home automation and wireless monitoring applications over longer distances.
