120 million investment: MediaTek "hairpin"

Yesterday, the reporter learned from the Singapore Economic Development Bureau that MEdia Tek, the world's leading fabless semiconductor company, announced that it will invest more than RMB 120 million in the next few years to expand its R&D center and business operations in Singapore. The scale will also increase to 250 people.

It is reported that this Taiwan-listed company sold 500 million mobile phone chipsets worldwide last year, and its market share in China is as high as 50%. Established in 1997, MediaTek is now one of Asia's largest and one of the world's five largest fabless semiconductor companies with revenues approaching 5 billion yuan.

Data shows that the semiconductor industry is an important pillar of Singapore’s economy and last year accounted for nearly 5% of Singapore’s GDP. The share of Singapore's output value in global semiconductor sales has increased from 6.3% in 2001 to 13.5%.
