As the first flagship of the year, the Samsung Galaxy S9 series has finally arrived as expected. While the China National Bank version is still pending, we've taken an overseas model to get a head start on the experience. After all, smartphones equipped with Samsung's own processor are quite rare in China.
The comparison model is naturally the previous generation, the Galaxy S8+. The test follows the usual routine, focusing on four key aspects: charging time, standby performance, 5-hour battery life, and heat management.
Test Model 1: Galaxy S8+
Firmware Version: G9550ZCU2AQK8
Test Model 2: Galaxy S9+
Firmware Version: G965FXXU1ARB1
Test Environment:
- Ambient Temperature: 25°C (±0.5°C)
- Humidity: 50% RH (±5% RH)
**0-100% Charging Time**

Although both models have the same battery capacity and charger specs, the charging time and curve remain impressive, placing them among the fastest in the lab database.
**8-Hour Standby**

This comparison is clear at a glance—still the same gap between the two models.
**5-Hour Battery Life**
This test simulates daily usage by running ten different tasks for 30 minutes each over a total of five hours. Tasks include: Weibo, WeChat, online video, local video, e-book reading, gaming, photo viewing, web browsing, calls, and local music playback.

If the S8+ sets the standard for a typical Samsung phone, then the S9+ seems underperforming. With only 44% battery left after the test, it's hard to believe that the S9+ claims a 15% reduction in power consumption. Could it be due to the Exynos 9810? It’s unclear, but regardless, I still have to charge my phone every day.
**Heat Control**
During the 5-hour endurance test, we also monitored temperature to assess how well the device manages heat during use.

Last year, the S8+ was impressive with a peak temperature of 36.2°C—very comfortable to hold. This year, the overseas S9+ failed to maintain that cool feel, reaching up to 39.4°C, which is noticeably warm. You might think this is due to the Exynos 9810, but it’s still hard to say. Regardless, we’re looking forward to seeing the performance of the China National Bank version.

In conclusion, from the data perspective, the overseas S9+ doesn’t show regression in battery life compared to the National Bank S8+. However, this year’s main upgrades were in the SoC and camera. We hope Samsung will bring more optimizations for the China version, especially considering the differences seen in the overseas model.
