6th generation LTPS panel blooms everywhere domestic high-end screen challenge Japan and South Korea

In 2015, the mobile phone industry saw an intense competition in brand specifications, with a significant rise in the adoption of high-end devices. On February 16th, TCL Group announced that its sixth-generation LTPS (Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Silicon) panel production line in Wuhan Huaxing had begun trial operations, following Xiamen Tianma’s announcement that its sixth-generation LTPS products were also lit up earlier in the month. LTPS has become a key technology for high-end smartphones from companies like Apple and Huawei. However, the market was dominated by Japanese and South Korean manufacturers, who held over 80% of the market share. Domestic players such as TCL and Tianma entering the sixth-generation LTPS field marked a turning point, signaling their intent to challenge the global leaders. According to CINNO Research, in 2015, the penetration rate of LTPS panels—along with AMOLED technology—reached 37.3% among domestic brands. The self-sufficiency rate of this type of panel rose by 20%, and the market share increased by 14% compared to 2014. As the global panel industry shifted eastward, Chinese companies began challenging the long-standing dominance of Japanese and South Korean firms in the high-end display market. LTPS is widely used in flagship smartphones, including models from Apple, Huawei, Xiaomi, OPPO, and vivo. Despite its growing importance, the national yield of LTPS remains low, and reliance on overseas suppliers is still high. In early 2015, Japanese suppliers accounted for 50% of high-end panel supply, down 20% from 2014 but still holding a strong position. JDI, for instance, supplies mostly to Huawei and Xiaomi, while Sharp focuses on Xiaomi and Meizu. Samsung also made a significant leap in the LTPS market, moving from near-zero in 2014 to second place in 2015, capturing 22% of the market. Brands like OPPO and vivo contributed heavily, with 75% of Samsung's domestic supply going to them. Globally, 87% of LTPS production capacity is controlled by Japanese and Korean companies, with over 50% supplying Apple. In the smartphone and tablet market, LTPS remains one of the most competitive technologies. With the shift of the electronics manufacturing chain to Asia, Chinese panel makers have increased investments in LTPS. BOE, Tianma, Wuhan Huaxing, and Shenchao have all started construction, though mass production is yet to be fully realized. By 2016, China was expected to reduce its reliance on imported LTPS panels. In 2015, both Xiamen Tianma and Wuhan Huaxing announced that their LTPS products would start mass production. Wuhan Huaxing aimed to produce around 88 million high-end smartphone and PC display panels annually, generating over 10 billion yuan in output value. Xiamen Tianma’s 6th generation LTPS line produced its first 5.5-inch FHD LTPS product, making it the largest high-end display supplier in China. Its market share reached 12% in the top ten smartphone brands in 2015, and with full production in 2017, its monthly output could reach 10 million units. Tianma’s subsidiary, Wuhan Tianma, is also building a G6 LTPS line. Once both lines are operational, Tianma’s LTPS capacity will surpass LGD and SHARP, ranking just behind JDI. This development signals a potential shift in the global LTPS market structure. Other companies, such as Xinli Huizhou and AUO, are also expanding their production capacities, further boosting the localization of high-end mobile phone panels. As more production lines come online, the proportion of locally manufactured high-end panels is expected to grow rapidly. While the period of excess profits may have passed, the demand from the mobile phone industry is still strong. According to Industrial Securities, LTPS TFTLCD shipments are projected to reach 711 million in 2016 and 844 million in 2017, with a market share of 33% and 38% respectively. With the trend toward larger screen sizes, the growth of LTPS demand is expected to outpace shipment growth, reaching above 29.4% and 18.6% in 2016 and 2017 respectively.

    â‘¡ Light intensity detection

â‘¢ Countdown Timer ON & OFF

    â‘£ 4 MODES:

Set > Detected: When the light intensity detection value is less than the set value, switch ON or OFF.

Detected > Set: When the light intensity detection value is greater than the set value, switch ON or OFF

    ON : Always ON

    OFF : Always OFF

    NOTED:

    1. The light intensity displayed by this machine is not the standard light intensity value (Lux), only the relative light intensity value.

    2. The light intensity value is affected by the placement position and direction. Please determine the position first and then set it according to the actual light intensity detected. If you change the position or change the orientation, you need to reset the light intensity setting value suitable for the new position.

    3. This product has built-in rechargeable battery. If it is not connected to AC for a long time, you need to connect the power supply to charge until the LCD can display normally.

    MANUAL OPERATION

    1. Press [UP" or [DOWN" to set the LUX value.

    2. Press the [SET" key to start setting, and the P1 settable items will be flashed.

    3. Press [UP" or [DOWN" to adjust the value.

    4. Press [SET" key again to exit setting or enter next setting for countdown timer.

    5. Repeat the [SET" key to start setting, and the P2 & P3 settable items will be flashed.

    6. Press the [FUN" key to switch the working state in the following:

    Set > Detected -> Detected > Set -> ON -> OFF

Set > Detected: Automatically switches when the detected ambient light intensity is darker than the set value

Detected >Set: Automatically switch when the detected ambient light intensity is brighter than the set value

When the brightness meets the setting conditions, the countdown starts as below:

Note:when the countdown is ON, the detected value is not displayed.

When the brightness does not meet the setting conditions, the countdown stops and waits:

After the countdown ON is reduced to 0, the countdown OFF starts immediately and the power is OFF.

After the countdown OFF is reduced to 0:

    A. If the light intensity meets the set conditions, a new round of countdown will be started;

    B. If the light intensity does not meet the set conditions, keep the power off and wait for the light to meet the conditions before turning on automatically.

    NOTE:

    1. If the power is cut off while the countdown is running, the countdown will be terminated immediately and the relay output will be off. After the power is turned on again, a new round of brightness detection will start.

    2. Modifying the brightness value in the countdown operation will not affect the current countdown operation. After the off time of the current countdown, the new brightness setting value will take effect.

    3. In the countdown on operation, change the setting value of the countdown on, this countdown will still be timed according to the original setting value; the new setting value will take effect when the next countdown on starts.

    4. In the countdown off operation, change the setting value of countdown off, this countdown will still be timed according to the original setting value; the new setting value will take effect when the next countdown off is started.

NOTE: the brightness setting value, countdown ON or countdown OFF, any one of which is equal to 0, cannot be switched ON or OFF automatically.

    Manual Control

When ON or OFF is displayed, it means that the power supply remains ON or OFF, as shown in the figure below:

    Power Detection and Standby Mode

With AC power supply, the icon lights up and works normally.

When there is no AC power supply, the icon goes out, the brightness is not detected at this time, and the system enters the standby mode.
