Although winter has arrived, the excitement around OLED manufacturing has been growing for nearly a year. From the debut of black technology products like wallpaper TVs and screen-emerging TVs at the start of the year, to the opening of OLED innovation experience halls in major cities across the country, and the soaring sales of OLED TVs during the National Day and Double 11 periods, OLED has truly captured the public’s attention. Today, the OLED manufacturing boom has reached an all-time high.
On November 30, the interactive project “OLED New Vision†was officially launched at Guangzhou Tower, known as the “Tallest Tower in China.†This initiative not only opened a high-end experience window for OLED but also helped Guangzhou Tower upgrade from simple high-altitude sightseeing to a multimedia interactive attraction, marking a new phase in landmark tourism.
Hundreds of OLED panels have transformed Guangzhou Tower into a visual spectacle. According to Lu Xiangde, President of LG Display, “OLED New Vision†showcases the design flexibility and superior performance of OLED technology. As the next-generation display technology, OLED is considered the ideal platform for the "Display of Things" era. Beyond its excellent image quality, OLED supports curved, transparent, foldable, and ultra-thin designs, expanding the physical forms of displays and enabling “everything to be displayed.â€
The most impressive feature of Guangzhou Tower's “OLED New Vision†is the world’s largest OLED tunnel, composed of 144 panels. Visitors can experience immersive scenes like starry skies and underwater environments while walking through it. Another highlight is the OLED Wave Roof, made up of 75 differently shaped panels that stretch from the ground to the roof, creating a realistic 3D effect when videos are played.
Inside the OLED Display Technology Science Museum located in Guangzhou Tower, visitors can explore the evolution of OLED technology through themed exhibits. They can see commercially available OLED products used in daily life, as well as cutting-edge OLED innovations.
Lu Xiangde remarked, “Standing on Guangzhou Tower, you can see the entire city. In the field of OLED, people will witness unprecedented visual wonders. This is the new horizon brought by the new height.â€
The recent surge in OLED TV sales shows that the industry is entering the OLED era. In 2017, despite a 15.6% decline in overall color TV sales, OLED TVs saw a 145% year-on-year increase, showing strong market demand. On Super Category Day, OLED TV sales surged by 509%, shocking the display industry.
Technologically, OLED has established itself as a leader in the display sector, outperforming LCDs in both image quality and design. Innovations such as wallpaper TVs and screen-emerging TVs, which break traditional TV concepts, have gained popularity and achieved strong sales—products that can only be realized with OLED technology.
By 2017, the number of global OLED TV manufacturers had grown from five in 2016 to thirteen, with major brands like LG, Skyworth, Konka, Changhong, Sony, and Philips launching OLED TVs in the Chinese market. The OLED ecosystem is rapidly expanding, signaling the beginning of a new era in television.
In addition, interactive experiences promoted by the OLED community have proven effective. Major home appliance stores across the country have opened OLED innovation experience halls, allowing consumers to better understand OLED technology and boosting sales. The “OLED New Vision†project at Guangzhou Tower has created a high-end experience window, accelerating the adoption of OLED technology.
As the OLED layout deepens and the industry chain matures, OLED is set to showcase even greater vitality in the future. The “OLED New Vision†at Guangzhou Tower is just one example of this growing trend, reflecting the increasing momentum behind OLED technology.
