In the realm of technology, OPPO has made a significant mark with its impressive 2015 performance. According to reports from Sina Technology News, by the end of January 28th, Beijing time, foreign media revealed that OPPO achieved an annual mobile phone sales volume of 50 million units in 2015, representing a 67% year-on-year growth. This achievement placed OPPO among the top ten global smartphone manufacturers in the third quarter of 2015, as per Gartner data.
Among the top ten, six are Chinese brands, including Huawei, Lenovo, Xiaomi, TCL, ZTE, and OPPO itself. The R7, R7S, and R7 Plus models accounted for 15 million units out of the total 50 million sold. While OPPO's sales were slightly behind Huawei by 58 million units, they surpassed Vivo by 10 million, Meizu by 30 million, and LeTV by 45 million.
Digitimes Research also reported that in the fourth quarter of 2015, Chinese smartphone manufacturers collectively shipped 69 million units, marking a 25.6% increase compared to the previous year. Huawei led the pack with 27 million units, followed closely by Xiaomi, TCL, and OPPO.
OPPO is well-known for its mid-range smartphones, such as the R7 and N1 series. Over the past year, the company has been actively expanding into international markets, particularly in Southeast Asia. Sean Deng, OPPO’s managing director, highlighted the company’s focus on overseas growth, emphasizing its efforts to strengthen its presence in emerging markets.
The Chinese smartphone market in 2015 was marked by several notable developments. Alongside OPPO’s success, Xiaomi sold 70 million units but fell short of its goals. Huawei gained recognition through the Google Nexus 6P, while Lenovo completed the integration of Motorola into its business strategy. These events reflect the dynamic and competitive nature of the global smartphone industry.
