The living room theater is not a dream? Samsung will push 75-inch curved panel next year

In the display industry, when it comes to curved screens, Samsung is often the first name that comes to mind. As a leader in consumer electronics, Samsung was among the first to introduce curved displays in televisions, monitors, and even smartphones, setting a new trend in the market. Recently, during the 2017 China Household Appliances Circulation Annual Meeting, Samsung Display announced plans to launch a 75-inch curved TV panel in the coming year.

Although both Sony and LG have stated they will not be launching any new curved TVs in the near future, Samsung’s early market insight may explain why large-size curved panels are still being considered by consumers. According to a survey by Yikang, the number of brands offering curved displays has not declined. As of May this year, 33 TV or monitor brands had launched 289 curved models, nearly doubling from the previous year.

Despite an overall stagnant TV market, curved displays in high-end models have seen strong growth. Since their introduction in 2014, curved TVs have maintained an average annual growth rate of over 300%, securing a stable position in the premium segment. Zhong Yikang predicts that curved TV sales in China will exceed 4 million units in 2017. Data from May shows that sales of 48-inch and larger curved TVs have reached 23% of total sales.

From a consumer perspective, curved displays align with current trends in television design. A survey by Zhong Yikang found that consumers prefer soft, aesthetically pleasing designs that blend well with home decor. Additionally, the main advantage of curved TVs is the immersive experience. The curved screen wraps around the viewer, creating a more engaging visual experience, especially with large screen sizes, enhancing the sense of presence and intensity of the image. While curved display technology still faces some challenges, its momentum remains strong based on market performance and Samsung's continued push for larger curved panels. With the increasing screen size, it seems that the future of television is moving toward a private cinema experience.
