In the display industry, when it comes to curved screens, one name immediately comes to mind: Samsung. As a global leader in consumer electronics, Samsung was among the first to introduce curved displays in televisions, monitors, and even smartphones, setting a new trend in the market. Recently, at the 2017 China Household Appliances Circulation Annual Meeting, Samsung Display announced plans to launch a 75-inch curved TV panel in the near future.

While both Sony and LG have stated they will not be launching any new curved TVs in the near term, Samsung's early market insight may explain why large-size curved panels are still being considered by consumers. According to a survey by Yikang, the number of brands offering curved displays has not declined. As of May this year, 33 TV and monitor brands had launched 289 curved display models, nearly doubling from the previous year.

Despite an overall flat TV market, curved displays have seen strong growth in the high-end segment. Since their introduction in 2014, curved TVs have maintained an average annual growth rate of over 300%, establishing themselves as a key player in premium markets. Zhong Yikang forecasts that curved TV sales in China will surpass 4 million units in 2017. Data from May shows that large-screen models (48 inches or larger) already account for 23% of sales.

From a consumer perspective, curved displays align with modern television design trends. A survey by Zhong Yikang found that users prefer soft, aesthetically pleasing designs that blend well with home decor. Additionally, the main advantage of curved TVs is the immersive experience they offer. The curved screen wraps around the viewer, enhancing the sense of depth and making the viewing experience more engaging, especially with large screen sizes.
Although some challenges remain, the momentum behind curved display technology remains strong. With Samsung pushing forward with larger curved panels and growing demand, it seems that the future of television is moving toward a private cinema-like experience. Smart TVs and streaming boxes are also playing a significant role in shaping how we watch content, blending entertainment with smart home integration.
