Bag dust collector smokes and ash causes - Database & Sql Blog Articles

Bag dust collectors are essential in many industrial applications, but they can sometimes cause smoke and ash emissions. Understanding the root causes of these issues is crucial for maintaining efficiency and safety. In this article, Qingshan Environmental Protection will explain the common reasons behind smoke and ash problems in bag filters and provide practical solutions.

Based on years of experience in production and installation, we have identified two main types of smoke and dust coming from the exhaust outlet of a bag filter. The first is continuous smoke, which usually happens when the dust bags have aged significantly over time. This could be due to severe damage to the bags, improper tightening, or gaps between the upper and lower hangers, as well as between the flower plate and the frame. These gaps allow dust to leak out continuously.

The second type is intermittent smoke, which occurs when the dust bag is slightly damaged. During the cleaning process, such as when the pulse jet system is activated, a sudden puff of smoke may appear. This is often an early sign that one or more dust bags need attention.

If most of the dust bags are damaged, it's best to replace them entirely. It’s recommended to perform the replacement when the dust collector is not in operation. Before starting, make sure to turn off the pulse controller and open the top manhole door. Remove the dust removal frame first, then press the spring ring at the top of the bag into a concave shape and pull the bag out. After removing the old bag, clean the holes on the flower plate before installing the new one.

To identify which specific dust bag is leaking, you can refer to the number of the electromagnetic pulse valve and the pulse controller when smoke appears. You can also use a flashlight to inspect the dust bag through the observation hole on the upper box. Alternatively, open the pulse cover and check during the blowing process to see which venturi is emitting smoke. Once the faulty bag is located, take appropriate action based on the situation.

When replacing dust bags, it's important to check for any damage. Several factors can affect the lifespan of a dust bag, including the properties of the dust, airflow distribution, and the quality of the dust removal frame. If the frame has weak welds or deformations, it can lead to premature failure of the bag. It’s important to repair or replace the frame if necessary. The dust bag frames are typically made with 4 mm diameter wire, using either spot welding or oxygen-acetylene welding methods. Spot welding is more efficient, provides a smoother surface, and reduces deformation, while oxygen-acetylene welding is less efficient and may result in rougher surfaces.

Plastic frames are also available, but they are not suitable for high-temperature environments. During the cleaning process, the dust bag rubs against the outer surface of the frame each time it is cleaned. Over time, even if the bag isn’t damaged, the inner surface may wear down. To extend its life, you can rotate the position of the bag based on the wear marks, so the same area doesn’t always come into contact with the frame.

If only a small portion of a dust bag is damaged, it’s possible to patch it using silicone rubber adhesive. Make sure the adhesive is compatible with the temperature and chemical conditions of your application. However, if the bag is severely damaged, it should be replaced entirely to prevent further issues and maintain the overall performance of the dust collector.
