What are the types of microwave antennas?

Microwave antennas are categorized based on their installation method into two main types: hanging antennas and base-mounted antennas. Hanging antennas are typically used in scenarios where the antenna needs to be suspended from a structure, such as a pole or tower, while base-mounted antennas are fixed directly onto a platform or support structure, offering greater stability and ease of maintenance.

In terms of electrical performance, microwave antennas can also be classified into standard antennas and high-performance antennas. This distinction is crucial when selecting the right antenna for specific communication requirements.

The key difference between a standard antenna and a high-performance antenna lies in their front-to-back ratio, which measures the antenna's ability to reject signals coming from the rear while focusing on the desired direction. A high-performance antenna typically has a front-to-back ratio of 10 dB or higher, significantly improving signal clarity and reducing interference compared to a standard antenna. This makes high-performance antennas ideal for applications where signal quality and reliability are critical, such as in long-distance communication systems or high-traffic networks.
